Santo (Sami Perrone, 66-year old Sicilian immigrant, said he was giving up the much-publi cized contract with the Detroit Michigan Stove Co. because he didn't want to be “persecuted" any more. He already has made a forttine out of the contract, worth as much as an estimated $65,000 a year, the Kefauver Crime Com mittee learned this year. Perrone was a witness before it at a Detroit hearing. Perrone and four other men were accused last week in a war rant of conspiracy to bribe an employe of the stove company, interfere with the formation of a labor union, and interfere with employes in pursuit of their work. He and three of the others are to be arraigned on the charges Thursday. The fifth man, Nono Minaudo, is a fugitive. The United Auto Workers— which just last week concluded a contract with the stove company, claimed that Perrone's main job —aside from hauling scrap metal —was to smash any attempt to unionize.the firm. Perrone. before the Kefauver committee, denied the charges. He admitted, however, that he couldn't read street signs and could barely write well enough to sign checks. 35 More War Criminals Due Parole in Japan By the Associated Press TOKYO, Nov. 26.—Thirty-five Japanese war criminals will be paroled from Sugamo Prison De cember 1-6. New Army Fatigues Made of Cotton-Sateen By the Associated Press NEW YORK, Nov. 26.—The Army is gradually replacing her ringbone twill with a new type of cotton-sateen cloth as the ma terial for Army fatigue clothing. Sateen trousers for the troops sounded a little on the fancy side when the Army Quartermaster re cently called for bids on several million yards of the new type ma terial. But the Army Quartermaster said that the new fabric proved to have better wearing qualities and greater abrasion resistance than the twill during extensive tests. A spokesman at United States Air Force search headquarters at Treviso said a small crew with a helicopter and two planes would remain on duty to check any re ports on the missing craft. In the past week as many as 20 planes a day have scoured Yugoslav territory and the Italian Alps in a fruitless hunt. Ground searchers have covered much of the area running down rumors about the missing craft. Since the transport last radioed on November 19 that it was head ing toward northeast Italy with fuel running low, there have been many reports as to its fate. The United States Embassy at Belgrade reported the plane was fired on by Hungarian and Ro manian border guards. There also was a report from Vienna that an unidentified air traveler from Bucharest said the craft was shot down by Roman ian guards. That report said the four crewmen were alive but in jured.
