Nov. 27.—Appoint-, ment of a former Massachusetts Governor and the wives of two United States Senators as spon sors of the Eisenhower-for-Presi-1 dent Club movement in Massachu setts w'as announced yesterday by Representative Herter, Republican, of Massachusetts and William Phillips of Bevery, co-chairmen of the sponsoring committee. Those named were former Gov. Alvin T. Davison A $220,123 tax lien notice was filed yesterday in District Court against a retired Army major and i paving contractor, who was re leased under Federal parole last January from a two-year sen tence for tax evasion in Virginia. The lien, recorded in the Balti more internal revenue collector’s office, named Franklyn McKenzie Davison of the 4400 block of Volta place N.W. The notice was made out in care of his attorney, Wil liam A. Clineburg. Mr. Davison, who is middle aged, was imprisoned in the Petersburg <Va.' Penitentiary in November, 1950, after pleading no contest to willful evasion of taxes. At the time, he was a partner in the Arlington Asphalt Co. and the Arlington Stone Co. The criminal prosecution in volved concealment of about $180,000 net income of the two companies from 1944 to 1946. The lien notice yesterday listed Mr. Davison's personal income taxes due as aggregating more than $200,000 from 1942-47 inclusive. Man Carries Out Threat To A man who often said he was going to “jump in the river” was found dead yesterday in the Ana-1 costia River near the Eleventh Street Bridge. His body was seen floating in the river by a sailor who was; walking on the bridge. Papers in his pocket identi fied the man as William Lowe, about 45. colored, employe of a tailor shop, who roomed at 2629 Wade road S.E. Police said he had been missing since Novem-i ber 11. A scribbled note on the inside covers of a bank book thanked his landlady for “everything” and said she could notify his brother, 'Jump in the River' j Fred, in Montgomery, Ala., “if you want to,’’ police said.
