Chicago Grain
CHICAGO. April 30 l.P.—Soybeans
dropped several cents on the Board of
Trade today on selling created bv an
Agriculture Department report showing
supplies of beans on April 1 were the
highest of record for that date.
The weakness ln beans found reflec
tion in othqr pits. Several wheat con
tracts eased into new seasonal low
ground, which generally was the lowest
price for wheat since 1950. but the
bread grain then turned around and
advanced above the previous close.
Wheat, near the end of the first hour,
was *, to *i higher. May. 2.1T 5 ,: corn
was unchanged to lower. May. 1.50*«:
oats were >, lowef to '* higher. May.

Traders were waiting with some ap
prehension for information on how much
cash grain would be delivered on May
contracts tomorrow Notices of Inten
tions to deliver will be posted with the
h J °. use up until the close todav.
When trading started, notices had been
received to deliver 140.000 bushels of
000 bushels of rve.
Tk e Agriculture Department reported
after the close yesterday that stocks of
> n « 1 positions totaled 145.-
8» 1,000 bushels on April 1. compared
with 129.626.000 a year earlier While
there were fewer beans on farms, the
suppl yat terminals and processing plants
was considerably higher than in 1952.
Another bearish item was a report on
soybean crushings for March. They
amounted to 20.43T.000 bushels, com
pared with 21.540.000 bushels a vear
ago Putting all the figures together,
traders found more soybeans were avail
able and less were being consumed than
a year ago. a couple of facts which
brought out some hasty liquidation.
Rains fell in a wide area of both
the winter and spring wheat belts over
night. Even some snow was received
In parts of the spring wheat belt. The
moisture could not help but be beneficial
to the growing wheat crop, traders said.

Mrs. Wood Wins Place
On College Park Ballot
Mrs. Yolanda F. Wood has won
her fight to have her name
placed on ballots in College Park
as a candidate for city council
fromihe fifth ward in next Mon
day’s election.
In Prince Georges County Cir
cuit Court at Upper Marlboro
yesterday. Judge J. Dudley Dig
ges overruled city officials, who
had refused to print her name
on ballots, saying she was not a
free-holder.
Judge Digges did not rule on
the question of whether Mrs.
Wood owns property or not. But
he said the law specifies that >
elected officials must qualify as
free-hold.ers and if Mrs. Wood!
wins, the problem can be re-1
solved before she takes office.
Mrs. Wood, through her at- j
tomey, Hervey G. Machen, had
contended that she and her hus
band are buying property where
they live at 9066 Baltimore boul- :
evard under a verbal agreement l
with a relative.
