Virginia Commission Approves Bus Fare Raisefor A. r B. &W. By the Attocioted Press RICHMOND, May 9.—The State Corporation Commission yesterday granted the Alexan dria, Barcroft & Washington Transit Co. an increase in bus fares. It allowed increases in regular fares, to become effective June 1, but said the company could not boost school rates until Septem ber 1. The increases in regular fares are based on the transit com pany’s zone system in the Vir ginia Metropolitan Area and the District of Columbia. In zone 1 the 12 , / i-cent token will be abandoned and 15-cent cash fare substituted. Five-cent increases apply in the other fouv zones through which the com pany operates some 200 buses in the Alexandria - Arlington area. The school ticket rate will go New Shepherd Park Rambler 1316 Geranium Street N.W. Zone 2 fares will go from 15 cents to 20 cents; zone 3, from 20 cents to 25 cents; zone 4, from 25 cents to 30 cents, and zone 5, from 30 cents to 35 cents, under the new schedule. R. T. Mitchell, vice president of A.8.&W., said the increases will not immediately affect fares for passengers between the Dis trict and Virginia. He added that an application is now pending for further increases. The company’s zone 1 covers all fares for trips inside the Metropolitan Area “intrastate” zone, including Arlington and Alexandria. Zones 2, 3 and 4 are for service to successively farther points in Fairfax County. The approxi mate limits of these zones are: The open-air theater in Fairfax County, zone 2; Engleside, Va., zone 3, and Fort Belvoir, zone 4. Arnold Bus Line Survey Os Service, Fores Begun The Arnold bus line today began a survey that will be used to redesign service and fares. Drivers for the bus line, for mally known as Washington, Virginia & Maryland Coach Co., handed cards to passengers as they boarded buses. The Rev. J. Warren Hastings, minister, announced that the funds will go toward construc tion of an educational building. Pledges will be accepted at the morning service, and 100 callers will visit other church members in the afternoon.
