Manager Stirs A&K Into Giving FBI Nine Fight for First Place Jack Hoffman, manager of Atchison and Keller’s sandlot team, obviously thinks it’s about time his boys give Federal Bureau of Investigation a fight for the title in the Departmental League. A&K, which has been winning enough on Sundays to lead the Old Dominion League, has been trailing FBI all season in the weekday loop. With only two weeks left in the first half Hoff man figures his squad must make its move now or never. Yesterday Hoffman installed himself at first base in an effort to stir the team into action and A&K responded with a 12-3 shellacking of second-place Hicks Chevrolet. Billy Nolan, George town pitcher, scattered 13 hits while his mates collected 14 off four Hicks’ pitchers. Shortstop Dave Keys led the attack with four for five and two runs batted in. Atchison & Keller now occu pies second place with a 4-2 record, one game behind FBI. But FBI is favored to widen its margin today when the defend ing champions play winless Union Printers at 5:30 p.m. on the South Ellipse. The first-half race in the In dustrial League has narrowed to a fight between Heurich Brewers and Phillips TV. Phillips plays Bonat’s Case at 5:30 p.m. today on the West Ellipse and must win in order to stay in conten tion for the first-half title. Other Games Today. The District Recreation De partment has scheduled two Anacostia League games and orte Ellipse League contest for 5:30 p.m. today. Swift Electric plays Snug Harbor at Anacostia No. 2 field and Used Car Dealers oppose Indian Head on the No. 1 diamond. The Ellipse contest Involves Bureau of Ships and 1020th Air Force Wing. Swift Electric extended its league lead yesterday by edging Marine Barracks, 1-0. Scotty Silvers scored the only run after two hits, a walk and an error in the fourth inning. Philippines shut out Military Air Transport Service, 3-0, on the East Ellipse behind the two hit pitching of Ray Liccini. MATS remained in first place, however, and Philippines took over second. It’s a tournament Welsh has won many times, along with all other major tennis events in the area. At 40 Barney isn’t likely to win the current affair, but with the field in the narrowing stage, none of the seeded survivors is taking him lightly.
