Society and Club News Seven Men Decorated At Thailand Embassy Admiral Arthur W. Radford, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, yesterday was awarded the Most Exalted Order of the White Elephant of the country of Thai land. Six other public servants of the United States were also honored by Ambassador Sarasin of Thai land on behalf of His Majesty, King Phumiphon of Thailand, in colorful ceremonies at the Thai Embassy here. * The other recipients and their awards were: Gen. Matthew B. Ridgway, Army Chief of Staff, the Most Exalted Order of the White Elephant First Class (Knight Grand Cross); Gen. Walter Bedell Smith, the same order; and Deputy Secretary of Defense Robert B. Anderson, also the same order. Lt. Gen. Lyman L. Leminitzer, Army Deputy Chief of Staff of Plan and Research, received Thailand’s Most Exalted Order of the White Elephant, second class, Knight Commander. Miss Preble Is Bride Miss Harriett Crain Preble of Washington became the bride on November 24 of Dr. Julien Ash ton Ripley, jr., of Carlisle, Pa. The ceremony took place at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Bell in New York City. The bride is the daughter of Mr. Albion E. Preble of Bryn Mawr, Pa., and is a graduate of Pennsylvania and Columbia uni versities. Dr. Ripley, son of Mr. Julien A. Ripley and the late Mrs. Helen Bell Ripley of Oyster Bay, N. Young Is Married Here Mrs. Katharine Cobey Walford became the bride of Mr. Walter H. Young on Thanksgiving Day. The ceremony took place in the Westmoreland Congrega tional Church. A reception and dinner for immediate families and close friends followed at the Kennedy-Warren. Mrs. Della Ford Harvey was the bride's attendant and Maj. Gen. Robert Young was his brother’s best man. Mr. and Mrs Young will reside at Alta Vista, Md. Miss Westwood Is Presented Miss Natalie Beau Westwood, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Carter Westwood, was presented to Washington society last night at a tea dance given by her parents at the Chevy Chase Club. She is the second generation of her family to make her debut here. Her mother, the former Miss Jessica Lyons, was also pre sented to Capital society. The debutante wore a marron velvet tea gown made by Bleriot of Paris during her visit to the French capital last summer. With it she carried a gold muff of orchids. DAR Chapter The Constitution Chapter of the District Daughters of the American Revolution will present to residents of Blue Plains Home, an American flag, on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The flag is to be used in the chapel, where the presentation will take place. Mrs. Adalbert W. Weisbrod, State Flag chairman, will make the presentation to Mrs. Florence Huff, director of the home. There will be a brief program featuring sons by Mrs. Virginia Ravenel. Benefit Tea To Be Given Plans for a benefit tea were formulated yesterday by mem bers of the National Speech Clinic Committee at a tea given by Mrs. A. Burks Summers at her home “Holly Oaks” in Rock ville. The benefit event, to be held December 4 at the Chinese Em bassy, is being planned to raise funds for the George Washington University Speech Clinic. Mrs. Nelson Hoff, president of the clinic committee, was pres ent at yesterday’s tea. She pointed out the group an nually contributes much-needed equipment to the GWU clinic, and pledges SSOO annually to the institution. Proceeds from the December event will be used to purchase apparatus for the GWU clinic. Mrs. Peters Cameron is ticket chairman for the Chinese Em bassy tea. Supper Fete Honors Deb Mr. and Mrs. Albert E. Bas sett entertained at a buffet sup per last evening in honor of Miss Louise Cropley. She is the daughter of Mrs. Charles El more Cropley and the late Mr. Cropley and was presented to society last June. Among the guests last evening at the party, which took place at the Bessetts’ residence, was Miss Virginia Womall, cousin of Miss Cropley, of Kansas City, Mo. Miss Giordano Becomes Bride Miss Jenny Giordano, daugh ter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Victor Giordano, became the bride on November 24 of Mr. Elmo Ellsworth Beach. He is the son of Mrs. Cecil Beach of Suitland, Md. The ceremony took place at St. Albans Church with the Rev. James Birney officiating. Attends Conference Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Claren don Smith, sr., will spend next week in New Orleans to attend the Democratic National Com mittee banquet and conference. The party started at 9 and the ballroom was garlanded with heather as a befitting backdrop. Members of the society, who must be of Scottish birth or de scent, donned their kilts and tar tan sashes mid danced to the i bagpipe band of Col. Richard ! Yost, U. S. A., retired. Mr. Marcus F. -Greenhome, president of the Washington group, announced that 1955 will be the centennial year for the association, which was founded in Alexandria in 1855. Churtrh Bazaar Perfumes, etchings and Christ mas cards imported from Paris will be among the items for sale at the French Church bazaar on Thursday at St. John’s Parish House, 1525 H street N.W. The sale will open at 10 in the morn ing and continue until 8. There will also be a luncheon served by the ladies of the French Church from 11:30 until 2 o’clock. Mrs. Harry S. Hickey is honorary chairman. Additional treats at the bazaar will be French “croissants” and other French pastries, and choco lates from Switzerland. Check for SBSO 1 o Be Presented A check for SBSO, raised by the Junior Woman’s Club of Chevy i Chase at its recent Pennsylvania 1 Dutch Fair, will be presented next week to the Montgomery County Association for the Help 1 of Retarded Children. The money will go into a fund started by the club for the pur chase of a bus to provide trans portation for children attending special education classes in the Montgomery County Public Schools. The check will be accepted for the association by the treasurer, Mr. Richard W. Grier, in a brief ceremony at his home at 8 p.m. Monday.
