Dulles Praises Spirit
Os European Nations
Under Red Tyranny
Secretary of State Dalles yes
terday pointed oat he is mindful
of the plight of millions through
out the world who have been de
prived of their freedom and in
dependence.
But he said they have “stead
fastly refused to surrender in
dependence of their minds and
spirits to the dictates of tyr
anny.”
This was contained in a mess
age he wrote to tbe Assembly of
Captive European Nations, meet
ing in the Willard Hotel. The
Assembly had been in session in
New York siqce September 21.
Mr. Dulles tent his reply to
Dr. Vilis Masens, chairman of
the assembly. He wrote:
“The commemoration of
Christmas, expressing the broth
erhood of man. inspires anew our
common hope for a world of
peace and good will. The people
of the United States and other
free peoples, through struggles
and sacrifice, have learned to
value dearly the enjoyment of
those fundamental rights and
liberties secured to them by self
government and the rule of law.
They are dedicated to the pres
ervation of this heritage of free
dom.”
At a press conference, Stefen
Osusky, of Czechoslovakia, said
the Beds are in “great difficulty
there” and in Russia itself.
