She was noted for singing in tte church choir and at social events. Mrs. Chaffee was orphaned when she was 2. She attended the Young Ladies’ High School in New London. He lived at 3901 Nicholson street, Hyattsville, Md. Bom in Germany, Mr. Doer ing came to America when he was 18. He had lived in the Washington area since 1936. Mr. Doering had been a cook | since his youth. He had worked for the Annapolis Hotel, the Silver Fox Restaurant, the Chevy Chase Country Club. Georgetown University and the Hot Shoppes. He had been at the university for the past three years. Mr. Doering was a member of the Epicurean Club and the Holy Name Society. Besides his widow, Julia, he is survived by a son. James Jones, Ex-Conductor On Congressional Limited j James Wellington Jones. 83, retired passenger conductor on the Congressional Limited, who had served all the Presidents from Grover Cleveland to Frank lin D. Roosevelt, died Tuesday in Tucson, Ariz., where he lived. Mr. Jones lived in Washing ton from 1891 until he retired from the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1939. He stepped down from the Congressional Limited on November 30 of that year, after traveling some 3 million miles ; as a railroad employe and com pleting nearly 50 years of rail road service. Mr. Jones had served Presi dents Cleveland, McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt. Taft, Wil son. Harding. Coolidge and Hoover when they were passen gers on some of the 250,000 cars he had charge of. Franklin Roosevelt did not ride on his train after becoming President, but Mr. Jones had served him when he was Assistant Secretary of the Navy. Other notable passengers in cluded diplomats and Supreme Court Justices, among them Justice Hughes.
