N. Y.. Mar. 31 •NANA). Somewhere in this land there are three lost streets. Or else there are pixies at work inside the city directory publish ing houses. ! The phantom streets are Item ; avenue. Ansonia avenue, and | Starkton avenue. They appear ! in the section of this city's di rectory listing streets. They are i complete with a listing ot names j of the residents, their occupations ADVERTISEMENT. But the streets apparently don t exist—not here. A reporter in Utica Friday noticed the listing of Item avenue —a atreet name unfamiliar to him in that city. He checked other street listings and the tele- ( phone directory. He finally came to the con- j elusion that the streets didn't exist, except on the pages of the directory. The Utica listing read: "Item avenue—from 200 Ansonio south to Starkton ave nue.- ’ A check of the street listings jCoan TRANSFER * STORAGE CO 460 Ntw York A.e N W. NA I 1070 LOCAL HAULING OUR SPECIALTY in the Buffalo directory showed) I —that's right—"ltem • avenue— i from 200 Ansonia south to Starkton avenue.” Then: “Ansonia—trom 246 ■ Item avenue west to Stockton avenue” and ‘Starkton avenue —from 210 Ansonia north to Item avenue.” Street guides disclose no such streets. The telephone listings i fail to show them. The Buffalo Post Office doesn’t know about ! the existence of the streets here, I either. But there are names of resi dents listed for each street. On Item avenue, for instance, there are: 246, Alcone, Walter L.. bar ber. and on through that street and similarly for Ansonia and Starkton avenues. None of the residents is in the Buffalo phone book. The phantom streets could have got into the directory by a transposition of type from some other city directory. But the answer will have to wait a day or two, as no one was work ; ing at the directory publishers' officers here over the week end. 1 f Scholarships Offered I In Public Relations Plans for swarding a year's : internships in public relations to ! three college graduates each year were announced by a New York public relations firm.
