1 2 Shopping Centers
And 2 Home Jobs
Michnick-DiMalo, a Washing
ton building firm, is undertaking
two new shopping-center proj
jects, as well as two new home
developments in the District area,
a spokesman said today.
The film is now going ahead
with 156 two-story semidetached
homes in Brookville, along
Shirley highway, in Alexandria,
where previously it built 310
apartment units. A seven-store
shopping center for this develop
ment is planned to start within
about 90 days, Howard' Michnick
said.
The firm said construction will
start within about a month on a
25-store shopping center in the
town of Paiifax that will occupy
a part of the newly purchased
- 115-acre Willard Tract known as
t Layton Hall. Parking for 4,000
' | cars is planned.
► In about four months, a new
y development of 280 homes to
occupy another part of the tract
* j will be started, the firm said.
►! These homes will be of the split
>: level one-and-a-half-story, and
| one-floor types.
►! Twenty-two acres of the Wil
► lard land now owned by the firm
. have been rezoned for commer
cial development. The shopping
► center’s proposed boundaries will
y | be Payne street, North street,
: Mechanic street and Route 237.
The firm purchased Layton
► Hall, which will also be the name
► of the -Subdivision, from the
: estate of the late Mrs. Joseph
i Willard, of the hotel family.
► Edward S. Holland, land plan
► j ning engineer of Alexandria, will
| handle land planning.
