Fla., where she and her husband had been living since he retired in 1948. Mr. Holm was assistant chief of the virus serum control division of the Bureau of Animal Husbandry at the Agriculture Department. The former Mary Elizabeth Ladd, Mrs. Holm was born in Claridon, Ohio. She taught in schools near her home until her marriage in 1899. In 1919 the Holms came to Washington and lived 23 years at 4106 Fourth street N.W. They moved to Silver Spring in 1941. Their last address here was 107 Lexington drive. Silver Spring. Mrs. Holm was formerly presi dent of the Petworth Women’s Club. J., educator, missionaiy and retreat master, died yesterday at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Reading. Pa., following a long illness. For the last 21 years, the 80- year-old priest had been at tached to Manresa-on-Severn at Annapolis, where he conducted week-end retreats for thousands of Catholics from the Arch diocese of Baltimore and Wash ington. A native of Baltimore, he at tended Loyola High School and College. Following his freshman year in college, he entered the Society of Jesus at Frederick, Md., on August 12, 1892. Father Hargadon was ordained at Wood stock College by the late Cardinal Farley in June. 1907. At various times. Father Har gadon taught at Georgetown University; Holy Cross College, Worcester, Mass, and St. Joseph’s Preparatory School, Philadelphia. Locker, 64, Envoy to Liberia MONROVIA, Liberia. April 11 (iP).—The United States ambas sador to Liberia, Jesse D. Locker of Cincinnati, Ohio, died here yesterday following a cerebral hemorrhage. He was 64. President Eisenhower, who ap pointed Mr. Locker in 1953. and Secretary of State Dulles cabled their condolences to the ambas sador's widow here. Liberian Presideht William V. S. Tubman also sent her a similar message and members of his cabinet called at the embassy. The embassy said a United States military plane would leave Monrovia Thursday to take Mr. Locker’s body to the United States. A prominent Negro attorney in Cincinnati and a staunch Re publican, Mr. Locker had been elected to six two-year terms on the Cincinnati City Council. He resigned from the Council to become ambassador. He was a past president of the Negro Sightless Society of Ohio and the Hamilton County (Cincin nati) Bar Association for Negro Lawyers, and was active in the National Association for the Ad vancement of Colored People. Bad-Check Passer Makes FBI List By the Associated Press The FBI today added to its list of “10 most wanted fugitives” the name of Daniel William O'Con nor, 26, described as a chronic bogus check-passer. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police also list O’Connor as one of their “most wanted men.’’ The FBI said O’Connor had seen engaging in the check racket since deserting from the United States Army at Fort Campbell, Ky., in 1946. While driving through British Columbia with his wife and two small children, he was appre hended by a Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer in con nection wth an irregular bank money order. The FBI said he drew a pistol, fired at the officer and then beat him. As a result, he is charged in Canada with at tempted murder. The fugitive is described as of medium height, weighing 200 pounds with a muscular build. He has blond hair, blue eyes and a ruddy complexion. E. G. (Jack) Burke, Cooling Expert Eldridge G. (Jack) Burke, 50, who retired from the Bureau of Standards in 1953, died Satur day in Providence Hospital. He lived at 5310 Pine street, Forest ville, Md. A refrigeration and air con ditioning specialist, Mr. Burke came here 21 years ago and formerly worked at the Naval Gun Factory. He was a native of Fayetteville, N. C. Survivors are his widow, Eliza beth B.; two daughters. Mrs. Anthony Gallo, Sliver Spring; Mrs. William Ketner, Alex andria; his mother, Mrs. Jessie A. Burke, and a sister. Mrs. Royal C. Jacobsen, Served in House DUBUQUE, lowa, April 11 UP). —William S. Jacobson, 68, former member of the House from the 2d lowa district, died of a heart attack yesterday while attending a wake at a funeral home here. He had visited the Streuber funeral home with his wife to view the body of Cyrl Lagen. a relative of Mrs. Jacobsen. He was stricken while there and died shortly afterward. Julius A. Schmahl, Minnesota Official ST. PAUL, Minn., April 11 —Julius A. Schmahl, 87, holder of an unequaled record in Minnesota politics, died yesterday after an illness of several weeks. Probably the best known among politicians in the State, Mr. Schmahl served seven terms as secretary of state and eleven terms as treasurer. Austrian Chancellor Julius Raab landed at Moscow’s central mili tary airport in a blinding snow- ‘ storm this afternoon to begin conferences with Soviet Foreign Minister V. M. Molotov on speed ing up an Austrian independence treaty. Mr. Molotov and Deputy For eign Minister Andrei Gromyko: headed the welcoming party at the airport. United States Am bassador Charles Bohlen was among the diplomats present. “I hope this trip will improve relations.” Mr. Raab told the crowd which greeted him. He recalled that it was just 10 years ago that Soviet troops j liberated his homeland. Deadlocked 10 Yean. Mr. Raab comes to Moscow on the invitation of Mr. Molotov, who has said personal contact between the Austrian chancellor ; and top Russian leaders would speed up completion of the Aus trian treaty, deadlocked in the 10 years since. The Soviet foreign minister said in a speech to the Supreme Soviet (Parliament) on February 8 that Moscow no longer insisted on linking the Austrian treaty to the German problem, and since then the two countries have been exploring ways and means of getting the treaty signed. The Russians said, however, they would insist upon ironclad : guarantees that Austria never I be unified with Germany, that; no foreign military bases be' MATS Given Safety Trophy The Military Air Transport Service, with headquarters at Andrews Air Force Base, has won the Daedalian Trophy for 1954, the Air Force said yesterday. | The trophy, a silver cup, is awarded annually to the Air Force command flying more than 100,000 hours which achieves the i lowest accident rate. MATS recorded its lowest ac cident rate in 6Va years. The over-all rate was seven accidents per 100.000 flving hours. In ovei - ocean operations by its three transport divisions, MATS re- i corded a new low rate ot only two accidents per 100.000 hours. The divisions flew 110,000 miles of air routes over 37 foreign countries. By the end of 1954. MATS had spanned the Atlantic ! Ocean nearly 21,000 times and the Pacific more than 44,000 times.
