Educator Offers Plan For Handling Criticism cHfcttbb. of ficial of the National Education Association today offered a seven-point program (or hand ling public critic* of the schools James T. Reiva of Denver, a member of the NEA’s Commis sion for the Defense of Democ racy Through Education, in a speech prepared for delivery to the group’s 93d annua] meeting, listed these points: 1. The schools need to con sentrate on improving the qual ity of teaching. 3. Much more effort must be put faith to interpret what the school* are doing, and the more the community is taken into the planning the less interpretation is necessary. 3. Better relationships with the press, radio and television must be developed. Throughout Country 4. Conferences like this 93d annua) .meeting of the NEA should be held throughout the country. 5. National organizations should come together to build understandings by “pooling their differences.” 6. The commission should carry on research studies on what the public thinks about schools and publicize the results. 7.
