TOKYO, A us. 18.—American
servicemen are being cheated
by phony Japanese car dealers.
The situation has become so
bad that the Army has begun
a warning campaign. A special
announcement in the Pacific
Stars and Stripes is beaded, “Be
careful when you buy or sell
an auto In Japan.”
The English-language Nippon
Times reports that more than
100 military personnel have been
victimised. The paper says the
“foreign car swindle Is now
feared by the metropolitan po
lice department to have become
a recognised racket.”
