Hie incentive program is for men who*ve had some armed service duty before the law went into effect This includes draftees, enlistees and officers wbo’ve al ready been released from active duty as well as those men who were on active duty at the time th*e law became effective. Hie reason for the difference in treatment la simple: No man who had gone on active duty before the law was passed is re quired to serve actively in the , Reserves when he’s released. But the law does provide for 1 what may be an incentive to some in this group to serve ac -1 tlvely. With rare exceptions, each > man with active military service : before the signing of the Reserve ' Law does have, under other laws, 1 an 8-year military obligation. However, he isn’t required to serve actively in a Reserve unit to meet any part of this obll ' gatton. * Take the draftee who has al ready served his required two • years of military servtoe. When be was released, he was assigned to the Reserves for the remain der of bis 8-year obligation, or for a period of six years. Six-Tear Period Hie six years is the normal period of assignment for ill draftees. But for men who kn itted, ft could be for five, four, three or none, depending 00 how long he served on active duty. In either case, meet draftees and enlisted men when released , from active duty have a period of . assignment to the Reserves.
