TOKYO, Aug. 20 (JP).—Three Chinese students, recently re turned to their Communist homeland, told a story today of what they called “interrogations, persecutions, threats, arrests and jailings” while being de tained three and a half years in the United States. Peiping Radio, in a lengthy propaganda broadcast, identified them and the schools they at tended as: Miss Sha Yi-shen, University of California; Huang Pae-tung, Texas A&M and Polytechnic In stitute of Brooklyn, and Tu Yen yae, Pennsylvania State Uni versity. Say They Lived in Fear All said they lived in fear. They claimed there were others being held under similar condi tions. Red China has made the same charge in ambassadorial talks now under way at Geneva to free citizens of the two na tions. Huang, a chemistry student, said: “I was imprisoned for 116 days on Ellis Island. ... I spent nearly four months in the shadow of the Statue of Liberty in a single, big. filthy room, crowded with hundreds of people, which somebody compared to the asylum in the .. . movie ‘Snake pit.’ " Tu, a student of physics, said: “I was haunted by United States Immigration * authorities, cross questioned and even put in jail (for three days).” He said he was questioned first in June, 1950, about his political beliefs. Nine months later, im migration authorities asked him to report and he asked a post ponement to finish final exams. Says He Was Arrested “The immigration office sent its agent to Pennsylvania State University and arrested me on the spot.” he continued. Newsman Acquitted On Bowles Charge DOVER, Del., Aug. 20 (Jt).— Robert Hagy of Laurel, Del., a correspondent for Time and Life, has been acquitted of stealing a picture of Bryant W. Bowles, president of the National Asso ciation for the Advancement of White People. Judge A. B. Magee, jr., dropped a petty larceny charge against Mr. Hagy after a lengthy hearing in Kent County’s Court of Common Pleas. The charge was brought by Bowles’ wife. Juvenile Court Judge Edith Cockrill then remanded the boy to the custody of his parents. Another of the six Juveniles yes terday asked for a jury trial which was set for August 29. j The victim of the attack said the boys accosted her in the basement of an apartment house in the 5900 block of Blaine street N.E. on July 16. She was in jured so badly that she remained in undetermined condition at District General Hospital for longer than a week. Judge Cookrill recessed court for 15 minutes yesterday when the girl fainted during her testi mony.
