Centers of Attraction Decorations For Your Thanksgiving Table BUSY as they are with kitchen duties for the traditional Thanks giving feast (see page 31), many women hesitate to attempt a decora tive centerpiece for the festive board. Some believe it’s too difficult, while others are reluctant to spend the time. But Mrs. Alyn Wayne, flower stylist for the Floral Telegraph Delivery As sociation, insists that making an at tractive centerpiece is no more trouble than preparing an appetizing salad. For most Thanksgiving tables, Mrs. Wayne recommends one of two basic arrangements. For smaller tables, a flower centerpiece interspersed with wheat sheaves catches the harvest spirit. For full-family dining, she suggests an all-in-one assortment that focuses attention on autumn bounty. To make the flower centerpiece. Mrs. Wayne shows how a plastic block in a bawl holds stems of large flowers that otherwise would be topheavy. The bowl holds fruit and flowers. Grovp ffcoto. ft. 4 ' v Fall fruits and vegetables are en hanced by flanking them with bright red autumn leaves and huge yellow chrysanthemums. Mrs. Wayne starts off with a simple gravy boat. To keep the flowers in place she puts a block of sponge-like shredded plastic in the center of the dish, and inserts flower stems firmly into the plastic. Snapdragons and daisy pompoms supply color, while cattails and wheat spears strike a proper autumnal note. More unusual, but just as simple, is the vegetable, fruit and flower col lection. In a pedestal bowl, Mrs Wayne arranges bunches of purple grapes, red cabbage, artichokes and squash, then flanks the vegetables with big yellow chrysanthemums and red fall leaves. This arrangement, she says, is especially striking for a buffet setting. Best of all, if anyone is still hungry after turkey and flxin’s. he Just has to reach over and pick off part of the tabic decorations.
