This is the picturesque spot located near Amsterdam. She thought the people here awfully nice and polite to ask her each time she wore her na tive costume, where she was from, but still she felt it was time for a change. So gradually she started her ' metamorphosis into a typical | American girl. With spring even a Dutch girl’s thoughts turn to pretty American summer dresses. Jo i nanna decided to buy a few. Then came other acquisi tions —medium high heels, the i winter coat, the suits, and dresses. But somehow Johanna didn’t feel quite comfortable ; wearing them. During the week Johanna is employed by Swiss Diplo mat Emile Rimensberger. On her day off for the past sev eral months Johanna has at tended classes at Phyllis Bell I in order to learn how to be more at home with her Amer ican clothes, and how to apply her makeup so she won’t look like a “clown." On Marken she never wore any makeup at all. Now the S-root-10-inch flaxen-haired Johanna wears her hair in braids, and has learned the one thing she wanted to learn most, what to do with her feet when sil ting down. Johanna likes to travel and to meet people. But if she settles down and goes back to live in the peaceful fishing village of Marken she’s going to look for a husband without any sisters. Over there a girl who mar ries a man without any sisters inherits his mother’s beauti fully hand-embroidered aprons, batik caps and exquisitely worked blouses, says Johanna. “When I’m back in my Marken costume,” says this girl who once wore wooden shoes, "I almost feel like I’m still a girl from Marken.” FORT BELVOIR THEATER PARTY TO BE GAY AND FESTIVE A gay tradition-packed evening is being planned for Friday, December 9, at Fort Belvoir.
