Recreation Item Opposed The Fort Gaines Citizens' As sociation last night opposed any improvement of recreation facil ities at the Friendship Play ground, Forty-fifth and Van Ness streets N.W. The proposed District budget for fiscal 1957 provides $40,000 for erection of .a community center at the playground and ;the salaries of two full-time; attendants. ■j The group split from the .neighboring American University Park Citizens’ Association in 1954 in opposition to the establish ment of the playground. Last night the group asked that the sum be struck from the appropriations. The resolution stated that ex isting recreation facilities in the area are adequate. "It is a matter of widespread public knowledge that the Dis trict is hard-pressed for funds,” the resolution said. The expendi ture of public funds for the pur pose above set out cannot be justified.” William B. Wolf, jr„ Is chair man of the committee that pre pared the resolution. The meeting, held in the Tem ple Baptist Church, Nebraska avenue at Ward circle, was con ducted by Vincent F. Callahan, : president. It’s easy to register and qualify as r. District voter.
