Britain's Pilgrims
By JAMES Me ANALLY
rE DESCENDANTS of the original hardy band of Pilgrims who stepped
ashore at Plymouth, Mass., in 1620, bear some of the most illustrious
names in America. While most people think of the descendants of the
Pilgrims as people who are among the staunchest of Americans, a number
of them over the years have made the trip In reverse and found their way
back to the same place they started from. There are today thriving in
England quite a few heirs of Pilgrim fame. Although conscious of their
heritage. It means very little to them as British subjects, and some of
them probably think the Colonists would have been better off to stay
with England
However, through the Society of Mayflower Descendants, the English
branch of the Pilgrims has maintained some contact with the American
chapter. 'These pictures, taken In various parts of England, show some
of the Britons whose ancestors sailed with John Alden and Miles Standish
to the New World. None of them, however, when interviewed, planned
to hold the traditional Thanksgiving feast come Thursday.
