WITH THE stacking of five bookcases
that weren’t intended to be stacked,
the wall with the odd lineup in the sketch
was turned into the attractive, well
organized wall in the photograph.
Many rooms need a tall piece of furni
ture to break the monotony of many
furnishings at the same relatively low level.
When there wasn’t one for this room, it
was created. The two bookcases already
on the wall, dwarfed by the high radiator
and inadequate for the space, > took a

The five bookcases, joining forces, have
the height and importance the room needs.
They also organize a space-saver library,
with the usefulness of all five occupying
no more floor space than was formerly
demanded by two. The flat alignment
against the wall is broken by a desk set
at right angles to the window—another
good arrangement idea. Extra light for
the bookcases spreads from the tall lamp
that’s needed for the desk.
