The Ideal Teacher THHE IDEAL TEACHER, in the eyes of Washington area students, is something I of a giant—not of stature, but of Intellect and heart. He is up to the minute in his subject, and he is able to present it to his students in such a way that they can understand clearly. ' As Corry van Hemert of Leland Junior High School puts it: “If it were just facts we needed to learn, we wouldn’t need any teachers. A teacher’s job is to help students grasp the full value of an education and help them better under stand their work and their purpose in the world—and how to make it count.” The students’ ideal teacher loves teaching and is fond of young people. He is ready to lend them a hand with their problems. But he isn’t a pushover— he is able to maintain order. He has infinite patience and a sense of humor. Here are some of the replies students made to our question, “What qualities do you think make a good teacher?” ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS sr JH m •J -15 k or ■■ |||:; * JMH I IHSk-i, % dip .. hBBHHHHI ■ - BLv 4 gjk? ml-' mf§ *9 Ka Nlyi Aitflim (Jommt) Tlmiwm Gcffort* (Hwt HOt) ”1 think a taochar should bn strict kart nice. tMcksr tket explains what bn or ska says.
