Yesterday, after a public] hearing, the District Board of Zoning Adjustment reserved a decision on the school’s re quest to locate at the Crescent place address. The application by the center calls for off street parking across from the school on Seventeenth street. In another case, the board postponed a hearing on a new request by St. John’s College High School to build a gymna sium. The case will be heard February 16. The postponment was granted at the request of citizens who opposed the school’s plan. The board was asked for the extra time to give the residents an opportunity to try and work out a compromise with St. John’s and, if this fails, to hire an attorney. In addition, one board member was absent be cause of illness, but is expected back in time for the February 16 session. Last October, the board re jected plans by St. John’s to build the gymnasium next to the school’s parking lot at Twenty-s eve n t h and Utah streets and suggested that the site be moved closer to the main building. The new plans still provide for the gymasium next to the parking lot but the site is 50 feet further back from Twenty-seventh street. In addition, the revised plans by the school, at 2706 Military road N.W., call for screening the gymnasium and parking 10l with a 6-foot high brick wall and with shrubbery.
