But as the daughter of a physician. Dr. Lawrence McCaleb, she's familiar with hospital talk. Mrs. Charles Fierst, wife of the chief of anesthesiology at Children's, who modeled as the little patient's mother, is really Kathy's brother John's mother-in-law. Incidentally, Mrs. Fierst serves as a volunteer in the hospital's snack bar. CHARACTER IN SEARCH OF CHARACTERS: This being Newspaper Comics Week (March 7-13), we asked cartoonist Stan Drake to use our cover to bring to Washington the three principal * characters in his Juliet Jones comic strip-the fair "Juliet" herself. /$r her younger sister "Evie," and their jj K, B "Pops." Followers of this popular ?5 n feature will recall, perhaps, that during 1959 s Comics Week, Mr. Drake gave an interesting series of chalk-talks, under sponsorship “ of The Star, in schools in the District, Maryland and Virginia. Not many comic strip artists draw as well as Stan Drake, and one reason is that many of his characters are real people. But then he's something of a character himself, as you'll learn by turning to page 16. HELP WANTED: If your cat should kill a song bird with a small aluminum band on its leg, open and flatten the band, fasten it to a piece of paper, note when and where found and on what kind of bird, and send to the Fish and Wildlife Service, Wash ington 25. The more bands returned to the Service, the more valuable information available to ornithologists. NEXT SUNDAY: A visit to Wallops Island, Virginia's con tribution to rocket research for the space age. The Front Cover The principal characters of Stan Drake s comic strip, The Heart Os Juliet Jones, on a sightseeing tour of Washington. You'll recognize F —t. ■ ■s* "Juliet,” her younger sister' Evie" and their "Pops,” and you'll want .l/jk- to learn more about them and their creator by reading See You In the Funny Paper, on page 16
