NEW HOMES IN PRINCE GEORGES
This is one of three different basic designs that Aragona Bros, is
building in the Brooke Manor Estates development adjacent to the
intersection of Oxon Hill and Kirby Hill roads, Prince Georges County.
The homes, of which some 50 have been completed, were designed by

Furniture Darkening? Try This
Question —I have a fruit
wood French Provincial bed
room set. When purchased
seven years ago, It was a very
light beige color. Now It Is
darker, with a yellow cast
which Is not attractive. Is
there any way we could re
store It to Its original color?
Since It Is not old, I don’t
want to paint the set.
Answer—All wood darkens
naturally with aging. The
yellow cast may be due to
aging of the surface finish.
Remove the surface finish
down to bare wood (use paint
remover for varnish, dena
tured alcohol for shellac;
follow label directions care
fully for the remover). Sand
smooth and wipe off all dust.
Apply a new finish coat of
good quality, water-clear var
nish.
Painting Cure?
Question—The mortar be
tween the bricks In the base
ment seems to be falling out,
despite the fact that the
bricks and the mortar have
been painted. It appears to
be very sandy. What can I do
about this?

Answer—lt is worthless to
try rescuing too-sandy mor
tar with paint. The mortar
was Improperly mixed orig
inally, but you may be able
to preserve it by treating It
with liquid cement hardener,
available at lumber yards and
masonry supplies dealers. If
unsuccessful, then the only,
practical remedy is to rake
out the loose mortar to a
depth of at least half an
inch (an Inch is even better)
