Toby < hadn’t gained an ounce in a < year, while his brother Bob, ■ 14 months, was hospitalized I for indigestion. “Why not try goat’s milk?’’ < Bobby asked her pediatrician > in sheer desperation. The doctor was skeptical. “For one thing, it’s scarce. You can’t get it except as : surplus from private owners. And you have to be very ■ careful of contamination.” So the Nyes decided to get some goats of their own. Finding a chocolate brown one that resembled Bambi, they bought her for $l5. And for another $5 they got her kid, a ratty looking offspring, for cleaning up the lawn. 8 Try the Udder Side, Darling . . . Breathless but trium phant, Bobby called the doc tor, asking, “Now what do I do?" “Put the youngsters on whole goat’s milk for three days,” she was advised. The experiment was so successful Toby gained. 5 pounds in two months. Bob, too, was able to leave the hospital and began to thrive. Now both are strapping young huskies of 21 and 19, and both guzzle goat’s milk by the gallon. In fact, neither can imagine be ing without it for a day. This Green Book Requires Goatees... Deciding that a high producing, registered goat wouldn’t eat any more than an ordinary nanny, the Nyes began shopping for goats by mail. They wrote all over the country, avidly studied many a goat’s biography, and finally ordered Dora, a Ver mont goat who’d been reared in the woods and never eaten grain. She had such a dazzling pedigree she seemed a real bargain at $25. Dora, then only a baby, grew up to become the matri arch of what is now the champion Dogwood Herd.
