Pretty Noreen Corcoran has a million freckles.
But on TV, they all do a disappearing act
a television director nowadays shouts "Out, damned spot!” he isn’t
necessarily directing Lady Macbeth. More likely he’s dealing with young
Noreen Corcoran, a pretty 17-year-old who has so many freckles she’s
sometimes known as "Miss Polka-Dot Face.” But by a mysterious bit of
electronic magic, not one of Noreen’s freckles shows up on TV.
When tryouts were held for the role of John Forsythe’s niece on NBC-TV’s
"Bachelor Father,” Noreen won everyone’s heart, and the role too. But the
fact that she was as speckled as a brook trout caused some apprehension, lest
viewers think they had spotty TV reception. The freckles had to go.
Heavy makeup was inadvisable, so the problem was put up to the show’s
cameramen. After considerable experimentation they figured out away to do
the trick with lights. A special magenta filter over Miss Corcoran’s key light
washed away the freckles like some invisible-ray detergent. The pictures on
