"Welcome Home" Dinner Set for Eisenhowers GETTYSBURG, Pa.. Jan. 14 GAP).—Normally frugal citi zens of Gettysburg are clamoring to buy 112.50 tickets for a “welcome home” dinner for President and Mrs. Eisenhower. So great is the demand for tickets that luck is playing a part in determining who will break bread with the Eisenhowers a week from tonight, after Mr. Eisenhower steps out of office as president. Only about 200 dinner tick ets are available, becausd of the limited capacity of the Hotel Gettysburg’s dining room. The committee in charge, which includes some old friends of the Eisenhowers, decided to meet the imbalance between supply and demand by allo cating tickets to some 60 or ganizations. In turn, each organization had to meet the problem of deciding which of its members got tickets. For the most part, these organizations took care of their members with great est seniority, then drew lots, for any tickets left over. House, but Vice President Nixon and Henry Cabot Lodge, the losers in the 1960 presi dential and vice presidential races, are too young to start collecting their regular civil service pensions. The amounts Mr. Nixon and Mr. Lodge receive some years hence will depend on the amount of their contributions to retirement funds. Mr. Eisenhower, the only office-holder covered by spe cial law, will be entitled to $25,000 a year plus $50,000 in tax-exempt expenses for office space and aides, if he elects to take the retired pay for former Presidents. But he is reported to have told friends he would like to have his five-star Army rank restored. He resigned that rank when he ran for President in 1962. A bill is being prepared to restore his Army status and to give him the option of accept ing the presidential retired pay or the lower Army retirement income of $20,543 a year, plus a small staff and other ex-I penses. There is no special retire ment law for formter Vice Presidents. Mr. Nixon is covered, however, under the general retirement law for Senators, Representatives and others. Some Federal pensions start at 60 years of age depending on years of service, others at 62. Mr. Nixon was 48 on January 9. He has served about 14 years in the House, Senate and as Vice President. He has credit also tor 3*£ years of service in the Navy in World War 11. Mr. Lodge, who is 57, counts Federal service totaling 22 years as Senator and ambas sador to the United Nations.'He had some Army service also in World War H Mr. Nixon has said he will Research Club to Fete Award Winners The Research Club of Wash ington will meet at the Bur dick Vocational High School at 3:15 pan.
