March 18, 1962 Readers Club Sets Meeting The Washington Readers Club will meet at 8 p.m. Tues- I day at the Women's City Club for a program centered I around Calliope, the muse of epic poetry. Music will be played by Stephen Ray Herrell, trom bone, and Marjorie Whiting, i guest pianist. Federation Schedules Luncheon The Montgomery County Federation of Republican Women will hold its annual luncheon Wednesday, March 28, at Shady Grove Country Club in Gaithersburg, Md. Mrs. T. R. Holforty of Cleveland will present a fash ion parade of dresses worn by former First Ladies and the gowns will be modeled by members of the unit clubs. All Republican candidates for office have been invited to the luncheon as special guests. The committee planning the event includes Mrs. Thomas A. Thorpe, Mrs. LOuis Gra velie, Mrs. Gerard Heitmuller, Mrs. Norvelle Stern, Mrs. James Lynch and Mrs. John McGovern. PEO Meeting The next regular meeting of Chapter J, PEO Society, will be held at noon tomor row at the home of Mrs. James Granum. Mrs. Thomas Thorpe (right) is dressed to represent Mrs. Andrew Johnson as she and Mrs. Louis Gravelie talk over plans for a fashion show of gowns of former First Ladies to be given at the annual luncheon of the Montgomery County Federation of Women on March 28 at the Shady Grove Country Club. They are holding a scarf used in the campaign of President Benjamin Harrison. District DAR Sets Conference The 61st State Conference of the District Daughters of the American Revolution will be held March 25,26 and 27 in the auditorium of the Nat ural History Museum of the' Smithsonian Institution. Mrs. Ashmead White, presi dent general of the DAR, will attend. She will also be guest speaker at the banquet which concludes the confer ence on March 27 at 7:30 pm. in the Mayflower Hotel. The conference will open with a memorial service on March 25. Slated for 2:30 p.m. in the Natural History Building auditorium, the service will be conducted by Mrs. Flavia C. Boyer, State chaplain, and Mrs. John J. Wilson, State regent. Mrs. Wilson will also pre side at the Monday and Tuesday business sessions. On Monday there will be nomination of candidates for State office, following chap ter regent reports which be gin at 7:15 p.m. Earlier in the day, the State conference luncheon will be held at 12:30 p.m. in the Washington Hotel. The Chapter Regents Club of which Mrs. Robert G. Brown is president, will sponsor the luncheon.
