Somber-hued blossoms of pawpaw, found near Monacacy Aqueduct,
precede its better-known fruit. Paw Paw, W. Va., is on the Potomac.
Wild columbine hangs from a rock near Little Falls. Like the wild
geraniums, they can be found blooming during final weeks of Spring.
The spring beauty's striped pink blossoms can be found all along
the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal's entire length from March to May.

Hummingbirds are attracted to the blossoms of the trumpet vine. One
of the best places to see wild flowers nearby is on Cabin John Island.
