C. November 24, IH3 Queen Fabiola, Childless, Writes Book of Fairy Tales By GEORGE EMBREE Women's Mae# larks BRUSSELS. Although newspapers and magazines commonly refer to Europe’s “fairi-tale" princes and princesses, probably the only member of royalty who liter ally deserves this designation is Queen Fabiola of Belgium, who has published a book entitled “The Twelve Marvel ous Fairy Tales of Queen Fa blola.” It originally appeared in Spanish, her native language, and has now also been trans lated into both Flemish and French, the two official languages of her adopted Belgian home. The Flemish version, which was translated by her Flemish Lady-in-Waltlng, the 25-year-old Lia Timmer mans, has been published by the Belgian publisher Desclee* de Brouwer. The 12 short stories, each of which has been illustrated, follow the best fairy-tale tra dition of “Once upon a time long, long ago. . . .” Several deal with the age old problems encountered by a handsome prince In his quest for the hand in mar riage of a beautiful and rich princess. However, not all of the stories deal with royalty. One is about a small girl who was constantly cold and ill who recovered her health on Christmas Eve through the love of her parents. Another describes in a very amusing way how snails fi nally found their homes In shells after many misadven tures and tribulations. All the stories Indicate that the author loves and ENGAGEMENTS Duryee-Shumate Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ran dall Duryee announce the engagement of their daugh ter Lynn Patri to Mr. Charles Lester Shumate, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Shumate, all of Fairfax, Va.
