Defeat of a resolution' providing for secession from" the 'American Federation of Labor, expression of sentiment favoring the consoli dation of the Western Fe'deration o'f "Miners and therUhfted Mine Workers, and passage of a reso lution favoring government own ership of all industry, marked the international convention of the JJnited.Mine Workers.here today. A resolution advocating gov ernment ownership of all indus tries, was adopted by the conven tion by an overwhelming vote. Philip. Burgh of Manifold, Pa., was the author of the resolution. y Aid "for the striking button workers at Muscatine, la., was asked by Miss Catherine Finne-gan-of the American Federation of Labor. John H. Walker, presi dent of the Illinois miners, sup ported the proposal and approved the recent action ot the strikers in going into politics and electing two members of the city council. a wish to commend the report of Vice President Hayes in as serting that labor should enter the political field in an effort to obtain its demands," said Walk er.'
