This is the time of year when a
few hours of work cleaning up
the yard and inducing, your
neighbors to do the saine will pre
vent many days of sickness later
in the summer.
Every day now is moving day
for flies, which are quitting their
winter quarters by the million
and seeking food and rest in your
house, after, perhaps, a visit to
the garbage can, a neighboring
alley outhouse, a nearby manure
pile or some other filth spot.
Soon flies will seem to be every
where. They are ready to fall
into the cream pitcher, crawl over
the butter, make their toilet in the
vegetable dish, take their bath in
the milk, wash their legs and
wings on the edge of a drinking
glass and comb their hair in the
soup plate. "
Wherever they go they aite
likely to leave germs of many dis
eases, notably typhoid fever and
tuberculosis. As long as they ex
ist they ate a menace to the health
and lives of the whole family.
Scientists now agree that flies
cause more sickness than any
other one agency.
Nobody can absolutely prevent,
breeding and hatching of flies, bur!
everybody who will take a little
trouble can greatly reduce their
numbers. Animal and vegetable
refuse is the nest of the fly. If
there wasn't any filth, he
wouldn't be. Therefore, the way
to get rid of him, or at least to
make him scarce, is to have as lrt
tle filthvas possible.
Bury or burn or have carted
away all trash or refuse about
your yard or house. You will
then be doing your part and you
will be surprised-that the-number
of flies about you is noticeably
fewer. I
To keep flies out of the house,
screen all doors and windows and
swat all flies that gain entrance.
