MOTHER DESERTS THEM ON THE STREET

Portland, Ore., May 14 -Man-ley
and Stanley Waters, fat, stur
dy boys these twins.
How they would have been
welcomed by some mothers !
But their mother well
here's the story.
The Walters, Claude and Lucy,
c&rne from Seattle- They left 3
children there with Mrs. Walters'
mother because they couldn't af
ford 'to bring- them along. In
Portland Work was scarce. When
the stoic came in December with
his double burden it wSs at the
county hospital they were oo
poor to meet him elsewhere.
Mrs. Walters remained thre
three months When her husband
took her away they walked along
the street looking into the show
windows, he proudly wheeling
the twins. Apparently all was
Maybe it was the sight of the
pretty things in the windows
which she could not have or may
be it was a longing to escape from
poverty no one but the woman
knows what prompted her but,
as they passed a restaurant she
asked her husband to go in and
