Little Tommy and his younger
sister were going to bed without
3 light They had just reached
the bottom of the stairs, when
Tommy, after vainly endeavoring
to pierce the darkness, turned
round and asked;
"Ma, is it pojite for a gentle
man to precede a lady when they
have to walk in single file?"
"No, my son," replied the
mother; "the lady should always
take the lead."
"I thought so," said Tommy
delightedly; "go ahead, Sue."
Four little girls in a school con
cert were dressed to represent the
word "Star," and each had one
letter of that word pinned on to
her snowy-white dress, Each let
ter began the verse of a touching
"Now, my dears," said the mis
tress, "form yourselves in posi
tion and wait until the curtain
The little girls did as they were
told, and while the piano played
the accompaniment the curtain
Instead of applause tQ greet
the little girls., howls from the au
dience met them.
