It is announced that Mrs. John
JacobAstor will not contest the
will of her husband, which left
the great bulk of his -many mil
lions to a son by his first wife
and only -$3,000,000 to the baby
boy who has just been born..
"It is likely," her lawyer says,
-"that the trust estate will quad
ruple by the time the child is 21
That means that by doing
nbthing except live this baby will
have "earned" $9,000,000 by the
time he is 21 years old, and still
have the $3,000,000 besides, or
This may be difficult for a man
earning $600 a year by hard work
to understand. For he has noth
ing left at the end of the year,
and would have nothing left at
the end of 21 years. Indeed, he'll
be in luck if he isn't in the poor
But here's a baby who will
never do a lick of work for .21
years, and at the end of that time
will be $9,000,000 better off than
he is .now.
And in the meantime he will
live like a prince.
If one workingman could save
$100 a year out of his wages, it
would take 4,285 workingmen 21
years to save $9,000,000.
The intere'st on $3,000,000 at 6
per cent would pay 180 families
$1,000 a year. It would enable
180 couples to raise and educate
five children each, or 900 cliildren
in comfort; that is, it would pro
vide a good living for 1,260 people.

Can you figure it out? Can
you see how millionaires are
made? And how you and all the
rest of us help to make them? '

It's an ill wind that blows no
bodvanv srood. Once more was
the truth of the proverb to be;
A shipwrecked sailor having
got ashore on a desert island w&
delighted to find that his life-belt
had been dishonestly filled wifl?'
sawdust instead of the"best grade"
"This means an abundance of
breakfast food!" he exclaimed.
"It only remains to provide lunch
and dinner and I am saved."
