evolved a scheme to beat the com
panies. After each game his brother
would telephone, asking for an
imaginary persons. Their code
was simple, the initials represent
ing the score. ,

Smithy the clerk-manager knew
his team had won by a score of 3
to I, for the first initials meant
his team and the second the op
posing team, the letters of the al
phabet being numbered. x
He filled his grandstand one
day by advertising 6n the sport
pagers a reward of $200 for a $400 1
diamond ring -lost in 'the grand
stand upon the occasion "of the
last game. Men who never at
