Fenway Park, Boston, Oct. 10.
Under the gloomy sky just suited
to his terrific speed, Rube Mar
quardt put the Giants back in the
world's series race with one of the
best pitched games of his career.
- Buck O.'Brien, the Red Sox
twirler, was as stingy with hits
as Marquardt, but wabled in the
second and fifth innings, and New
(York scored enough runs to win.
Herzog, the hero of yesterday's
battle, duplicated today, scoring
New York's first run on a sacri
fice fly, and counting the second
on his double and Fletcher's sin
gle. Time after time the Red Sox
got a man on base, but Marquardt
kept tfiem away from the plate,
until the ninth.
The crowd was not so large or
so enthusiastic as yesterday.
There was nothing to stir them
up and the Boston rooters stolid
ly watched the hurlers battle.
