Rawlins, Wyo., Oct. 14-
Twenty-eight convicts have es
caped from Wyoming state pen
here since Saturday.
Sixteen have been recaptured.
One has been killed. One citizen
of Rawlins, Chas. Stressner, has
been killed by the convicts.
The city is in a state of terror.
Men, and women sat up all last
night with rifles over their knees,
guarding their homes and children.-
It was like the days of the
Twenty convicts escaped Sat
urday under the leadership of
Butch Dalton, a life termer and
notorious bad man.
They swept through the town,
no one darmg to oppose them,
and into the open country.
Warden Alston ordered out
half a dozen posses to capture
them dead or alive. He himself
took charge of the p6sses.
While Alston and onejialf of
; the pen guards were in pursuit of
the escaped men, Antonio Paseo,
ianother notorious bad man, or
ganized eight ther prisoners,
overpowered the guards and es
caped. Stressner tried to capture
Paseo. JPaseo shoj: and killed him.
The eight convicts kept together

took to the hills. Paseo was later

are still at large. They are heav
ily armed and there is certain to
be a battle before they are taken,

with the eight still remaining of
the 20 who escaped Saturday.
TO THAW PIPES
