"And so," he went on, "I believe that my conclusions are justified. I am sure that our dear friend Mr. Chase agrees with me." He turned for corroboration to the gentleman named, who sat at his left hand. The audience listened expectantly for Mr. Chase's re ly, all eyes being turned in his irection, but with his head slightly on one side and his eyes Closed he slept sweetly on. o o Perhaps your nose is in the taiiddle of your face because it is the scenter. WHAT WAS WANTED It was 10 o'clock sharp on a Monday morning. Mr. Goahead, chief of the vast commercial house of Goahead & Wearum, was interviewing applicants for the vacant position of traveling man. "Ahem !" he coughed pompous ly, as the first man was shown in. "Your name is Getham, I believe Your recommendations are fine, and er your appearance is good. There is just one question I should like to ask you. I pre sume you have er never got into any sort or trouble during your life?" "Once," replied the sturdy ap plicant. "I was in jail for a week." The magnate started to his feet. "Then I'm afraid," he began. "But wait," he added. "I will be fair, as you have been so straight forward to me. What were you imprisoned for?" "Assaulting a man who would not give an order," was the re sponse. "Tommy," said th head of Go ahead & Wearum's, as he turned to his confidential clerk, "tell those others outside I'm suited." "Papa, is it necessary to whip me?" "You ought to know." "Well, I sometimes think you don't realize how little good it dOes me." Driver (after a great storm) Ah, and I've been out in all of it!
