The actual arrest was made by Detective O'Connor, after Webb had fired five times at O'Connor, and missed each time. The arrest was made in the Hyde Park police district, which is in charge of Police Captain Paddy Lavin. Lavin was specially detailed to "get" the auto bandits. It was through his fingers that Webb slipped after the murder of De tective Peter Hart. As soon as Lavin and his chief aide, Lieut. Hogan, heard that Webb had been captured by de- tective bureau men, they set out in pursuit. Hogan chased, the street car on which O'Connor and Egan were taking Webb to the detective bureau in a patrol wagon for a dozen blocks. I'll admit I lost my nerve then. I hadn't thought they made coppers like that." Webb denies that be murdered Detective Peter Hart. He says that if anyone shot and killed Hart that person was Mike Cas sella. owner of the auto bandit love flat where the murder oc curred. Cassella was in the flat when Hart was shot. It was he who first accused Webb of the mur der. He said that he stood and watched the murder committed. When asked why he had not pre vented it. he said: "I didn't realize what was hap pening. I was like a man in a dream." Cassella was very vague'as to the exact way in which the mur der occurred and contradicted himself several times. Last night, Webb said be
