COCHRAN Discussing brotherhood, I said that when men get together in any fra ternity, association, club, society, church or other organization that has an honest purpose they are on their way to the greater brotherhood. It is generally known that numerous fraternal organizations have beautiful obligations, which, if lived up to, would make better men of all the members. A number of years ago I found a young man friend carefully studying the list of members of the lodge of a fraternity he had recently joined! I asked him what he was doing, and got this reply. "I am looking to see if a certain woman has any relatives in the lodge." One of the obligations of some fraternities is that a brother will not violate the chastity of a female relative of a brother member. Meri are also obligated not to cheat or defraud a brother. I knew this young man well enough to say to him: "Cant you see that you are taking a mighty narrow and selfish view of brotherhood? Be ing a fraternity brother von't "help you much if you think that your obliga tion is intended to protective wife, sister, daughter or mother of a brother. Bat it will help you amazingly if it makes you understand that if it is wrong to violate the chastity of a female relative of a fraternity brother it must be just as wrong to violate the chastity of any woman." Any man who thinks it out will see that it would be ignoble 'and dis gracefully selfish, for a few men to band together and agree to cheat any body but one another. They say there is honor among thieves, and there is. But it js the same ijnd of honor as that young man had in his mind wh n he was looking up
