SCIENTISTS DON'T KNOW WHETHER BABIES ARE JUST BROTHER AND SISTER OR a REALLY TWINS STORY INSIDE THE DAY BOOK An Adless Daily Newspaper. N. D. Cochran, .SSr k ,00 500 So1111 Peoria St Editor and Publisher, lllp398 TeL Monroe 353. VOL.2, NO. 220 Chicago, Monday, June 16, 1913 ONE CENT THE MOTHER LOVE OF ALJ. GOOD WOMEN IS NEEDED IN ALL HUMAN RELATIONS And the Political Equality of Women and Men in Illinois Cities Ought to Mean Better Cities, and Government for Humanity as Well as Government for Property, BY N. D. COCHRAN Although, the legislature could not give women the right to vote for constitutional officers, it has gone as far as it could in granting the fran chise to -women; and the people of -the state will ultimately do the rest, so that women will be on terms of political equality with men. Fortunately, when the suffrage bill is signed by Gov. Dunne and be comes a law, woman's influence in politics will be felt where it is most needed in tie cities; for there the most vital problems are before us for solutiori. Even though she douldn't vote, woman has exercised an influence for f good in government in the past, although that influence had to be indirect so long as men only could vote. She has approached many governmental problems with a keener.instinct for the humanitarian side than man has "with a better understanding of the needs of the race. Business has governed too much in directing the political activities of the men. Possibly they have been so busy making money and trying;, to get rich that they think they didn't have time to consider humanity. Even some of our most eminently respectable men have not allowed moral scruples to interfere with high rentals for property for immoral purposes. And in politics the voting influence of the men who profit by com mercialized vice has been so powerful as to establish a working relation between, political office holders and vice and crime. Woman Instinctively protects her offspring. Intuitively -she senses "whatever threatens her young; and I believe that her active participation in government means a higher regard for the physical, mental and moral health of boys and girls than the men have shown. iSSSfc&tEi. jj
