The first raid on the Federal
League was made yesterday, wljen
the St. Louis Cards signed Pitcher
Tom McGuire and Outfielder Silk
Kavanaugh of the Chicago team. The
only comment of President Powers
of the Federal League was that his
organization must be vplaying good
ball to make the major organizations,
want its players. It is possible re-
prisals will be made by the Feds and
inducements will be held out to mem

confident talk about what he will do
to FranMe Burns when he gets him
in the ring at Kenosha next Monday
night. The Logan Square bantam

makes or breaks himself. If he puts
up a good battle against Burns he
will be the choice over Kid Williams
of Baltimore in a championship fight
But-if Burns holds the champion to
a drawy it's gpod-a-bye John.

badly spelled. Mrs. Hudson was
highly educated and a good speller."
