McGraw of the Giants, and Pitcher
Ad Brennan of Philadelphia for five
days each, as a result of their trouble
following the Philadelphia-Giant
game Tuesday. In addition to the
suspension, Brennan was fined $100

Halfway Mark Finds Pennant Dope
Cone to Smash.
July 4 is usually marked as the
halfway post in the baseball pen
nant races, the bloomers have be
gun to fade and the teams doped to
finish high up are beginning to drive.
That is the way it usually is. This
season is something else again, espe
cially in the National League. Dally
with the dope a while and then lamp
the standings.
In the pre-season predictions nine
tenths of the experts picked Pitts
burgh to take a running jump and
head the National League race to the
wire. New York was touted as the
runner-up, Cincinnati and Chicago
were slated to fight for the third posi
tion, the Phillies were choices to head
the second squad and Brooklyn, Bos
ton and St Louis were to grab what
was left.
Never has a form sheet -been more
completely upset than has this one.
Pittsburgh started badly, but the wise
ones continued to back the Pirates
and promised that by July 4 they
would be fighting with the leaders.
