"Black Bart." He was, perhaps, the
most romantic figure in the history
of western crime a "story book
criminal" in real life.
Yet he couldn't get away with it!

Women may now swim in bloomers
on Chicago beaches if they want to.
So very likely they won't want to.
Any Hearst-Harrison man can tell
Gov". Dunne has no heart by looking

Congressman McDermott seems
always to have needed a little more
of the root of all evil.
The commanders of the militia in
the Michigan copper country ordered
the mine owners to resume work as
soon as possible.
What do the militia up there want?
Trouble?
And, anyhow, what business have
soldiers telling mine owners or
miners when they shall start work
and when they shall quit?
The Tribune has decided that one
of our Chicago bandits now in the
clutches of the law is "incurable."
The only time our faith in human
nature sank as low as that was when
we regarded that product of the
Tribune, Max Annenberg, the gun
man. But, by golly, maybe Max Annen
berg can be cured once he is taught
that he will receive due punishment
for his lapses.
The Tribune and Sheriff Zimmer
have discovered gambling in Cicero
and have attacked it fiercely, tooth
and nail.
Why do not the Tribune and Sheriff
Zimmer discover a little of the big
gambling going on on the North Side
and. attack it?. I ,
It is just beginning to dawn on
Ambassador Henry Lane Wilson that
he is not in charge of the destiny of
these United States and Mexico.
In fact, Henry is getting hep to the
fact that he isn't the whole cheese
and the swelling in his head is com
ing down considerably.
The council, with innate delicacy,
declines to appropriate $10,000 to in
vestigate and whitewash the adminis
tration. Possibly the council thinks that,
considering the administration, $10,
000 is high for whitewash.
Still, the council is willing to spend
$10,000 to investigate our garbage,
investigating it being apparently the
only darned thing our council is
capable of doing to garbage.
Why should the dark-colored gen
tleman at present reposing under the
school board woodpile be allowed to
remain there?
Today the city editor and day city
editor of the Tribune appear before
the grand jury.
Hope the grand jury is not too
easily shocked!.
