A coroner's jury absolved Mrs,

not be prosecuted.

Delmont I am now 24 years old.
Friendless and penniless, I went with'

life of shame. During five years I
was in the We I made between $5,000
and $6,000 a year.
"I objected at first, but he threat
ened to cut me loose and leave me
stranded. Once I tried to save to get
away from him and to lead a better
life. He discovered $10 I had hidden
and beat me. Later he married me.
For a time I was happy because I
loved him.
"But after six months my husband
forced me back into that awful life.
One day while in Los Angeles I saw
my husband with another woman
Louise. She had been my best
friend. '
" 'Can you swear over your dead
mother's body that you haven't got
another woman?' I asked him. He
wouldn't swear. Then I ran away.
I saved enough money to start a
rooming house, but he ordered me
to go back to work. I had been good
too long to ever return to that life.
"No woman can be good a year
and go back to a life of shame. She
might be good a few months and
give it up, but a year ah, no! In a
year a woman can find out wliat

bad before because I did not know
these other things.
"When you make money that way
it never does you any good.
"Then my husband told me if I
didn't go to work he would go away
with Louise. And, oh I loved him
so. That was what held me all those
years. I couldn't leave him. And he
catted me all kinds of names.
"That made me crazy and I went
to get the gun."
Covering her eyes, the girl gasped
hysterically, then between sobs,
screamed "And and I killed him!".
