is on the Island of Mindanao, one of our Phih'ppmepossessipnBl Being a
very proud young lady and.wishing to look her prettiest to the men of her
acquaintance, she, files Her teeth!
It is a very queer custom,, but the people of the Big-island of Mindanao,
which is the second largest of the Philippines group,, its area being 36,000
square miles, think nobody is Tery good looking whose teeth are not sharp.
The reason for this, custom is,, we presume, from the fact that the
Mindanaoans are great hunters. Not only' the men but the women go in
ft, for the sport. Andbeing only semi-civilize'd, thepeople in their customs and
habits are, influenced by the wild animals they chase:
