Sends Sol Lewinsohn to Jail for Contempt of Court

bondsmfcn who infest the Chicago courts by sentencing Sol Lewinsohn, one
of the type, to jail for contempt of court. - . '
Lewinsohn is probably the most powerful bondsman in Chicago. His
activity even exceeds the operations- of the Ike Roderick-Aaron Andrews
trust, which controls the bonding business at the. South Clark street station.
This same bondsman'yras barred-byJTederal Judge Landis from coming
into his courtroom. Lewinsohn got into trouble that time due to his eager
ness ""to furnish an" indemnity iboitd for" Jack Johnson when the big negro
was in the white slave mess. 5
LewinsohnJs latest trouble comes.from the complaint of a widow,, who
supports herself by, working as a domes'tic in the home" of a University of
Chicago professor.
The woman is Mrs. Hannah Tremmerling. About three years ago she
and her daughter came hereof rom Pittsburgh. The" woman supported her
self and the girl.
One day the daughter went ,ta the mother and told her Bhe had
-inned. And she was in a delidate condition. The man In the case had fled.
An Illegal operation was performed and the girl Jdled. The mother Was
