Harrison, Cor poration Counsel Sexton and a score of prominent lawyers and judges were put on the stand as character witnesses when the defense opened today in the trial of two alleged con spirators in the plot to "get" Clar ence S. Funk, who was a witness against ex-Senator Lorimer, and the defense created surprise by announc ing that, neither Attorney Donahoe nor Detective Steiffel, the accused men, would be put on the stand. This sudden change of plans by counsel for the defense promised a speedy ending of the trial. It was re ported that the defense would rely solely upon the character witnesses and would not attempt to combat the confessions of Mrs. Josephine Hen ning, John G. Henning and otehrs who testified that they were tools in the plot to ruin Funk. Arguments are expected to begin Saturday morning and the case may go to the jury be fore Monday. aMyo rHarrison swore that he had known Attorney Donahoe for nearly 40 years, and testified to his good reputation for honesty and integrity, prior to his indictment. Other wit nesses who had known Donahoe for from 10 to 30 years made the same statements, and the defense expected to put on character witnesses for Stieffel late this afternoon. Among others who testified for Donahoe today were Circuit Judges Frank Baker and J. II." "Walker; Su perior Court Judges J. H. Fitch, Ar thur Gridley and J. M. McSurely and Deputy Sheriff J. W. DIVORCE SUIT THE OUTCOME OF SUN CULT AFFAIR Dr. Ottoman Zar Adusht Hanish's discredited sun cult has broken up another family. The attempted sac rifice of her two children to the fan tastic ideas of the sun worshippers has proven too much for Mrs. Anna M. Plainer and yesterday she filed suit for divorce against Anton Plainer, 1517 N. Park avenue, one .of Doc Hanish's train-bearers. Mrs. Plainer, through her attorney, Charles G. Hoffman, alleges that Plainer desired to have Hanish make gods of their two children, and that in order to become "gods" the chil dren were made to suffer by the rites of the sun cult. The bill says: "Your orator shows unto your honors that the defendant is a member of the cult conducted under the leadership of one Hanish and that in the exercise of the cult defendant will not allow complain ant to prepare any food necessary for the proper nourishment of herself and growing children and compelled her to follow certain dictations of the Hanish cult, which are contrary to all ideas of civilized conduct." Attorney Hoffman says that Plainer forced his wife to practice all sorts of ridiculous exercises. Plainer, according to the lawyer, used to make her take some sort of a water cure to clean out the evil in fluences and also make her sit and gaze at one spot on the wall for hours to promote concentration. Mrs. Plainer says her husband comes from a wealthy Austrian fam ily. The sun cult worshipers are ex pected to put up a fight to keep the Hanish charges out of the bilL -fedS-el
