DAILY COMMENT ON PEOPLE AND THINGS
Folks who think they can't be hap
py unless they start in on the New
Year drunk will have to do their New
Year's boozing early.
For hizzoner says the lid goes on
at 1 a. m. as usual.
It isn't such a hardship for sassiety
folks at that. They can start in early
and by midnight ought to be able to
have enough aboard so it will be run
ning out of their ears.
Now they are talking that there is
something back of the school board
row that doesn't appear on the sur
face. Some Methodist preachers refused
to protest against the treatment of
Mrs. Young, and they say Shoop is a

If they ever get that religious issue
mixed up with the public school it
won't do the schools any good.
We don't know just what the kick
was on Mrs. Young, for she isn't a
Catholic or a Mason.
However, it will probably all come
out in the wash.
Chicago and Cook county would be
better off if McCormick and every
body else on the County Board would
get down to business and quit play
While the trust newspapers gener

there is another side to the argu

just as fast as any of the other fac

The Interstate Commerce Commis

Evidently the railroads think they

People who make a yearly practice

Of course, it might hurt business

TEMPTATION AND WOMEN
"The Creator Himself put temptation into the Garden of Eden," de
clared Rep. Bartholdt while discussing prohibition on the floor of Congress
the other day, "and to abolish temptation you would have to abolish
That's just what men folks have always claimed. The great error
about the construction of Eden was that Adam wasn't its sole founder and
architect, and the weak spot in its management was the introduction of Eve.
' Satan knew that Adam was too strong for him, but also knew that
Adam would weaken to the woman, and so it was the woman who did tempt
Adam and made him eat of the apple.
Does woman consider the great compliment thus paid her ability com
pensation for the obloquy she bears as the real tempter?
If woman caused man's fall, shouldn't she bear equal share (or greater)
of the resultant burdens, including that of holding political office? Yea,
carrying this thought further, shouldn't she carry all of man's burdens?
If Congressman Bartholdt or anyone else will satisfactorily answer
these questions, we will at once be able to announce the correct attitude to
ward the proposition to abolish women but not till then.
